The teeth are one of the most critical parts of a band saw blade. They are carefully manufactured to produce the correct tooth geometry and cutting performance.
However, once the blade leaves the factory, it must go through packaging, handling, transportation and delivery before reaching the end user. During that process, exposed teeth could become damaged.
The protective plastic for band saw blades creates a barrier around the tooth edge to help prevent this.
